A double chocolate chip mug cake you can make in the microwave. Have dessert ready to eat in under 5 minutes, start to finish! No mess to clean up, and only one mug used! Gluten-free, grain-free, low-carb, Paleo, ketogenic.
What could be better than an incredibly tasty double chocolate chip mug cake? How about one that can be made in under 5 minutes? I thought you might agree. When it comes to dessert, I usually don’t want to spend much time prepping, mixing and waiting for something to bake in the oven.
Plus, who really needs 12 servings of dessert? Then I just end up eating way more than I wanted to. Well, this single serving mug cake alleviates all of those problems! Mixed and cooked in just this one mug, there is no additional mixing bowls or 40 minute cook time required.
Plus you get all of the taste and texture of a traditional oven-baked dessert. There really is no losing here.
Doesn’t all of that ooey gooey melted chocolate just look divine? Seriously so good!
Like I mentioned previously, making this recipe is super simple too. It’s all made in the mug itself, so no extra bowls or utensils are required. You’ll start by melting your butter or coconut oil, then add in the eggs and make sure that it mixes well with the butter, then add in your sweetener, coconut flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and half of the chocolate chips.
Mix until everything is well-incorporated and then top with the remaining chocolate chips. Just as a note, it works best to sift or remove the clumps from your coconut flour before adding it into the mix. Otherwise it may be somewhat difficult mix in fully.
This goes absolutely perfectly with a cold glass of (almond or coconut) milk, or topped with some ice cream. Seriously the easiest dessert you will ever make. No questions asked.
I could seriously talk all day about how delicious and moist this mug cake is, but I’m sure you would rather go make it than sitting here reading about it longer. If you give it a try, let me know what you think! I don’t think you’ll be disappointed 🙂 Oh, and I think you’d also love this peanut butter chocolate chip mug cake!
Double Chocolate Chip Mug Cake

- 1 tablespoon coconut flour
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
- handful chocolate chips or chunks I like Lilys dark chocolate chips for less carbs
Instructions
- Melt butter in microwave in 30 second increments.
- Mix in all remaining ingredients and top with extra chocolate chips, if desired.
- Microwave for 90 seconds to 2 minutes, depending on your microwave. A tall narrow mug will likely need only 90 seconds. A wider ramekin style mug may need 2 minutes.

I just tried this. Actually I’m eating it right now. I haven’t tried a lot of mug cakes & I haven’t used coconut flour except in pancakes, but this is actually quite good. Thanks for the recipe.
So glad you enjoyed it! I might go make one for myself right now actually 🙂
Could almond flour be substituted for the coconut flour?
It should work fine if you use 3 tablespoons of almond flour in place of the coconut flour.
How many net carbs have you calculated? I make mine 5?
LOVE the recipe 😀
Hi Julie, so glad you love the recipe! I added the nutrition facts to the bottom of the recipe. I calculated 4 net carbs 🙂
I used your recipe to make 3 pancakes , just poured into a saucer and nuked for 60 seconds each. Works and taste better than pancake recipes I’ve tried.
I’m so glad it worked as pancakes for you! I love the idea of making them in the microwave, I’ll have to try that!
This was really good
I’m so glad you enjoyed it, Jay!
