I can’t even count the number of times I’ve made or eaten asparagus that just wasn’t cooked well. You know, the stuff that’s chewy, fibrous and makes your jaw ache just thinking about eating. For those of you who have sworn off asparagus all together, I’m here to tell you that those days have come to an end. It’s time to get asparagus back in your dinner rotation!
So what’s the secret? How do you get asparagus really tender?
Let’s be honest, no one enjoys stringy asparagus. Then why do so many of us eat it this way time and time again? After lots of trial and error, I have determined that the best way to cook asparagus is to first cut off the hard, light-colored ends. Then you want to steam it until it’s nice and soft.
Next you’ll drain the liquid and add in a nice big hunk of butter or coconut oil and a pinch of salt. Swirl that around until the asparagus is well-coated, then saute for another 5 minutes or so. This way of cooking is incredibly flavorful, butter soft, and has zero stringy texture.
That’s really all there is to it! It comes out perfect every time when I make it using this method. I’ve had numerous people compliment me on my incredibly tasty and tender asparagus, that I know it’s a winner!
Sometimes the easiest recipes are some of the best. There is no need to over-complicate healthy eating for the sake of being fancy.
