A quick and easy apple crisp recipe, perfect for when you want something sweet and crunchy, but don’t want to wait 45 minutes for the baked kind. Paleo, gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free, sugar-free.
So by now, you should be no stranger to all of the fall recipes on the blog. I’m just in the mood for all things fall and Thanksgiving, even though it has been fall for quite some time now.
But really, what would fall be without a delicious apple crisp? I posted one awhile back, but if you’re looking for a quick recipe (all about those these days), then you’ll love this one, for sure.
This is not like any apple crisp that you’ve seen before, trust me. Not only is it gluten and grain-free, it’s also dairy-free and low in sugar. And yes, it is possible to make a delicious crisp without gluten and grains!
It took awhile, but I came up with this delicious crisp, and seriously, it tastes just like the real thing! Except of course, without the oats, which do not agree with me.
To make this delicious crisp, start by chopping up an apple. You can peel the skin off, or leave it on, whichever you prefer. I don’t mind the skin, so I usually leave it on, as long as I am using organic apples.
I usually peel the skin if I can’t get organic, because apples are one of the dirty dozen. If you’re not familiar, this means they are one of the worst produce in terms of pesticides.
Melt some butter or ghee in a pan and add in the apples. Cook covered until soft. Add in the cinnamon and stir to coat. Move into a dish.
Melt additional butter or ghee in a pan, and add in several chopped almonds. Stir for a few minutes, then toss in some hemp seeds and stir again.
Add in coconut flour until the mixture begins to absorb all of the moisture. Once it forms a “crumble” consistency, remove from heat and toss in sweetener. Mix until well-incorporated, and add on top of the apple mixture.
